My first website was years overdue when I first discovered Erik Stafford, the Faster Webmaster.

I used to be really intimidated by the mere idea of creating a website. Actually, that's an understatement. For the longest time, the idea that I could create one myself never even occurred to me. Instead, I kept wondering when I would ever find the money to have someone else create one for me.

When I first found Erik Stafford's Faster Webmaster program, I was quite skeptical. What, me do all this by myself? But then I took a closer look...

His ad said that a grandmother learned how to do it in no time flat, and so I figured that if she could do it, maybe I could too. The ad worked just the way it was supposed to. And as it turned out, the program it sold did too. It really delivered the goods.

Next thing I knew, I was actually doing it! I still have a huge smile on my face whenever I remember the moment when I typed my domain name into the browser window for the first time and there it was: my first ever website, just the way I wanted it.

How in the world did the Faster Webmaster manage to turn techno-phobic old me into a web enthusiast? Here's how:

For starters, he provided (and continues to provide) access to a membership site (for a one-time fee), where the course with an ever-growing stash of supplementary resources is located.

your business part time. It’s not a problem.

The important thing to remember is to build your business consistently over time.
It will be much better to do a few small things consistently
than to look for that one "Home Run." This is true in most any
businesses...in Real Estate Investing, in Internet Marketing,
even in the restaurant and food business where Franchises
prove to be cash cows, but the "empire" usually started with
just one McDonalds, one Kentucky Fried Chicken...

Stay Focused and Stay motivated

As you are just starting out, you won’t see big results, however, stay motivated and just keep it going a day at a time with small consistent habits and grown
(like blog posts, articles, an hour of education a day...)

Niche Marketing Using Google Trends

Having a presence on the 'Net really boils down to one thing...
identifying your niche and marketing, in some form, to that niche.

Whether you are doing a Blog or Articles...whether you have a
Website, post in forums or create a profile in the Web 2 space
you will only have direction if you first identify your niche and
your audience.

Once you do, you may then be searching for content for articles,
ideas for blog posts or just staying "current" about your market.

One great way to do this is to monitor Google Trends...

You can "Search" using the term "Google Hot Trends"
or go to Google.com/trends and click "more hot trends" for the
full list.

Updates are ongoing, every day, and you can "hot trends" for
USA or many other country-specific, like Hot Trends India or
Hot Trends UK.

Say you are doing something in Football...Super Bowl day will
yield many hot trends about the game, players, etc.

The day of the Country Music Awards had Hot Trends on the
show, the winners, the artists...all of these were the most searched
phrases up-to-the-minute...each "Hot Trend" was a possible
blog post Title for a related story, product (such as Amazon
Affiliate, etc).

DRILL DOWN INTO YOUR NICHE

Click on a "Hot Trend" and Google will show you top News Stories
and Blog Posts for further suggestions, content etc.

Also, check out the Google Trends Graph for the Keyword (s)
of the Trend item.

You can create a profit stream by capitalizing on a hot trend by
posting to your blog with a link to a product or Affiliate.

ADVANCED STRATEGIES

A more advanced strategy would be to use PPC and Adwords ads
to include Hot Trend phrases or putting your Adwords Ad on the
Websites or Blogs (that accept Adsense) on those Hot Trend sites
that people will be more likely looking at as a top search result.

Obviously, you have to identify a top site or craft your ad to include
the "Hot Trend" phrase people are searching for so your ad will
come up...or send them to your affiliate as direct linking.

Again, this is more advanced strategy as PPC involves money
management...controlling loses is at least as important as sales.
(And conversions are a lot more important than just "clicks" but
Hot Trends can give you an opportunity to use stronger
"buying phrases."

You can increase your chances for sales without PPC by having
a blog post title (in a related niche Blog) that includes the Hot Trend,
or jump on an original Article or Report...assuming that you are
finding a Hot Trend already in your niche, you are getting hot trend
keyword phrases from Google Trends.

Using Google Insights, another free niche market research tool,
will allow you to do free Keyword Research related to trends.

a) add your niche market word or phrase in "websearch" box
b) change "worldwide" to a country you want to target
(for instance, if you select United States, Insights will also give
you the States doing the most searching for your niche...you can
"drill down" even further into cities and specific county trends).

c) pick a time period. You can select "last 12 months" for a long
view of a niche market or you can shorten the results to only now
cover the results over the past 90 days or even last 30 days only.

President-Elect Barack Obama became America's 44th President
today, Inauguration Day 2009.

The 56th Presidential Inaugural was on Tuesday, January 20th.

The Inauguration took place on January 20, 2009 in Washington D.C.
on the steps of the United States Capitol. Obama made it official
when the President-elect took the oath of office, following the
Vice President-elect Joe Biden who had already taken a similar oath.

'We must pick ourselves up'

President Obama and Vice-President Biden will now set out on a
plan to revitalize the economy.

One aspect of the Obama-Biden Plan will focus on small business
taxation...

Zero capital gains rate for investment in small businesses: Barack Obama and Joe Biden believe that we need to encourage investment in small businesses to help create jobs and turn our economy around. That's why they will eliminate all capital gains taxes on investments made in small and start-up businesses. They also want to cut taxes for the small businesses that create jobs but are struggling with restricted access to credit on top of skyrocketing health care and energy costs.

Obama and Biden will also support small business owners by providing a $500 "Making Work Pay" tax credit to almost every worker in America. Self-employed small business owners pay both the employee and the employer side of the payroll tax, and this measure will reduce the burdens of this double taxation.

As a smaill business entrepreneur, you may well want to follow
the changes and progress of the new economy plan.

Another aspect that could effect growing your business is focused
on SBA (Small Business Administration) Loans:

Address the credit crisis facing our small businesses: To address the massive credit crunch that is threatening America's small businesses, Barack Obama and Joe Biden are proposing two immediate steps: (1) a nationwide emergency lending facility for small businesses that could be run through the SBA's Disaster Loan Program, which helped thousands of businesses in the wake of 9/11; and (2) temporarily eliminating fees on the SBA's 7(a) and 504 loan guarantee programs for small businesses, to help increase private lending for small businesses.

Well, the answer is multi-layered.

First, there is timely information hidden in this news...the trend
and transition from driving over to the Mall and driving Traffic to
the Internet e-commerce Mall.

While Macy's retail store sales declined 4% year over year (sales
December 2008 vs. store sales December 2007, that was not even
close to the case for Macy's Online Store...

One bright spot for the company came in online sales at macys.com
and bloomingdales.com, where sales were up by 39.1 % in December,
by 26 percent in the November-December period and by 30.1 % for
the year to date. This info speaks for itself in the catagory of "Trends."

Our second reason for the Macy's alert is, if you live near these
stores, it is expected that Macy's will have big discount bargains
with the sales due to begin next week.

They carry electronics and accessories and, while we cannot speak
for the corporations plans of how they will liquidate stock at these
stores, they do carry Digital Cameras, DVD players, home theatre
sound systems, headphones, i Pod accessories, MP3 and CD players,
phones and other items that all could apply to your home-based
internet marketing business.

How to Pick Your Domain Name

One of the first things you need to do to have an online business
is to know how to pick your domain name.

Your domain name will be your identity online. It is the name
you select to tell the world who your are and/or what you do,
such as The Faster Webmaster. When you add the "http://"
in front of the domain name, you are creating what is called the
"URL" and will include the extension of ".com/.net/.info/.biz, etc..
such as "http://thefasterwebmaster2.com."

It is extremely important to consider carefully the idea you want
to convey so you can choose your domain name, and always try to
register the name with a .com as this is often taken for granted as
the extension of most "legitimate" businesses, by perception.

Once you have an idea, you can go to GoDaddy.com and see if the
name is available. Keep in mind that it is easier to "find" your site
using words people would "search" by...these are called keywords.

Also, when you pick a domain, your URL looks a little different than
it will on a store sign or business card.

You might be Bob's Dog Grooming on the store sign but as a domain
name it would read "bobsdoggrooming" which might not be what
you had in mind for the domain to look like! Also, nobody is searching
for "bobs" which is at the front of the domain..."doggroomingbybob"
might be a better fit.

Remember that a ".com" is best, so check for the name and, if it is
necessary, you are often better off finding a variation as a ".com" than
taking a ".biz" or ".info" of the same name. If "doggroomingbybob.com"
is gone, you might consider "doggroomingbyRobert.com" or something
completely different.

If creating a business and branding, you will want to make sure that your
idea for your business name is available both as a business name AND as
a domain name.

If you only have a general idea of your business and need help with domain
suggestions, you might try www.nameboy.com

Last tips on your domain name....
Make it short...the shorter the better and make it easy to remember.
Also, the domain name should be a clue as to the content on the site and
the type of information that can be found on the site.

Barack Obama was elected the 44th president of the United States Tuesday night, crowning an improbable two-year climb that owes much of its success to his command of the internet as a fundraising and organizing tool.

Obama was winning 51 percent of the nation's popular vote, and had surpassed the 270 electoral votes needed for a win, according to a projection by CNN and the other major news networks at 11pm Eastern time. The results are a stunning and hard-won victory for a candidate who began the race as a relative newcomer to the national political stage, and ended it as first African-American to win the White House.

"I was never the likeliest candidate for this office," Obama said in an acceptance speech in Chicago Tuesday night. "We didn't start with much money or many endorsements. Our campaign ... was built by working men and women who dug into what little savings they had to give five dollars and ten dollars and twenty dollars to this cause."

Both Obama and Republican rival John McCain relied on the net to bolster their campaigns. But Obama's online success dwarfed his opponent's, and proved key to his winning the presidency.

Volunteers used Obama's website to organize a thousand phone-banking events in the last week of the race -- and 150,000 other campaign-related events over the course of the campaign.

Supporters created more than 35,000 groups clumped by affinities like geographical proximity and shared pop-cultural interests. By the end of the campaign, myBarackObama.com chalked up some 1.5 million accounts. And Obama raised a record-breaking $600 million in contributions from more than three million people, many of whom donated through the web.

"He's run a campaign where he's used very modern tools, spoke to a new coalition, talked about new issues, and along the way, he's reinvented the way campaigns are run," says Simon Rosenberg, president and founder of the nonprofit think-tank NDN, and a veteran of Bill Clinton's first presidential campaign. "Compared to our 1992 campaign, this is like a multi-national corporation versus a non-profit."

Ironically, it was McCain who first saw the internet's potential in a presidential race, running an experimental set of targeted banner ads during his doomed 1999 primary battle against George W. Bush. But eight years later, Obama finally teased out the net's full potential as an election tool.

The campaign's commitment to online organizing took shape during the primaries, when it hired online director Joe Rospars, a veteran of Howard Dean's web-heavy 2004 campaign, and lured Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes to build its own social networking site, myBarackObama.com.

Hughes was intrigued by the challenge. "We were going to be taking on some of the biggest names in politics," Hughes recalled in an interview last week.

As the presidential race heated up, the internet grew from being the medium of a core group of political junkies to a gateway for millions of ordinary Americans to participate in the political process, donating odd amounts of their spare time to their candidate through online campaign tools. Obama's campaign carefully designed its web site to maximize group collaboration, while at the same time giving individual volunteers tasks they could follow on their own schedules.

The scale of Obama's campaign reached massive proportions. By Election Day, for example, it was asking its cadres of volunteers to make a million phone calls to get out the vote.

In addition to fostering grassroots supporters with its social networking tool, the Obama campaign contacted hard-to-reach young voters through text messages, collecting thousands of numbers at rallies and sending out texts at strategic moments to ask for volunteer help or remind recipients to vote.

The campaign also launched web pages and online action groups to fight the underground, e-mail whisper campaigns and robo-calls that surfaced in battleground states. In one effort, the campaign urged supporters to send out counterviral e-mails responding to false rumors about Obama's personal background and tax policies.

In fundraising, Obama followed in the footsteps of Howard Dean's 2004 bid by regularly soliciting small donations from a wide swath of voters, raising record amounts online by federal filing deadlines. He then used this money for more traditional campaigning — for example, flooding cable markets in strategic states with television advertising. Obama spent a record-shattering $293 million on TV ads between January 1, 2007, and October 29, 2008, according to TNS Media Intelligence. McCain spent $132 million during the same period.

In many ways, the story of Obama's campaign was the story of his supporters, whose creativity and enthusiasm manifested through multitudes of websites and YouTube videos online. It even resulted in volunteer contributions like the innovative Obama '08 iPhone and iTouch application that enabled owners to mobilize their friends and contacts in battleground states through the Apple devices.

The campaign was constantly adding new features even to the end, and many hope that Obama will bring this approach with him to the White House. Obama almost has no choice as he faces the task of rebuilding Washington's credibility with voters, says David Stephenson, a consultant who advises governments on transparency.

"I'm not sure that Obama is an XML jockey," says Stephenson. "But he does have people advising him that realize how important this is."

Either way, Obama's rise to the presidency will be studied for years to come as the textbook example of a new kind of electioneering driven by people and technology, says Ralph Benko, a principal of the political consulting firm Capital City Partners, in Washington, D.C.

"It was a peer-to-peer, bottom-up, open-source kind of ethos that infused this campaign," says Benko. "Clearly, there was a vision to this."

My Big Internet Marketing Secret

What we are about to reveal here is what I am calling the
Big Internet Marketing Secret....

Let's lay it all out and be real...what you are about to read may
change your business, even change your life.

I will presume you want to have a successful business online.
I will assume that you feel you are struggling, not getting the
results you want or think you deserve or the results are not
coming fast enough or big enough. Let's fix it.

Have you ever asked someone what they do and they told you
what it used to be, what it isn't, what it will be...but can't tell you
what the heck they actually do (or even think they do?)

Can you tell someone, in a sentence, hopefully an interesting
sentence, what is your business? Don't overcomplicate it.
A guy with a hot dog cart can tell people "I sell Hot Dogs."

Second, if you want to have a business, you need to treat it like
a business. That means you respect yourself and you value
and respect money. No banker will loan money to someone he
thinks doesn't respect themselves, their business or his money.

Third, if you are in or entering marketing online, you are a marketer.
If you want your marketing to be successful, you must sell something.
This becomes much easier when you identify what you do and what
your business is! If you don't have a product, sell someone else's.

Watch for Information Overload. Too much information from
too many sources is distracting and distraction leads to confusion and
confusion leads to lack of action. A confused mind just shuts down.

Have a goal. Everybody says "write down your goals" and people
usually have a 100 of 'em and all they have now is a big "wish list."
One goal, one statement, so you can figure out what action needs
to happen to accomplish this goal. Too many goals=a confused mind.

Have a System. This is purely organization, a checklist, a way to
make progress in an orderly fashion. When you go to the Doctor,
we expect the Doctor to have "a system" and do things in the right
order. A system, once established, allows you to duplicate that
same order of actions and repeat the successes. If you don't have
a system, you can't improve it. You cannot run your business like
a night at the comedy Improv, doing something different every day.
Well, you can't run a successful business that way...

Ok, now that we covered some basics that will put you miles ahead
of where you were, let's get miles ahead of the competition and now

Have Focus. For some, this means Keep it Simple.
A simple statement of what you do or what your business does.
Have a Goal, then you will know the outcome you want and can take
the action steps to get there. This will help you clearly define your

be overwhelmed by too many ideas and too much "noise". Focus
will reduce the "mind clutter" and better focus equals more action

Faster Webmaster Traffic Secrets Revealed

Erik Stafford, The Faster Webmaster gave tips and advice to new
online marketers in today's webcast interview by Netslinger's
Andy Duncan.

Erik's advice encouraged participants to construct an irresistable
offer. "It doesn't have to be your product, but you should deliver
a compelling offer" to get viewers to want to "opt-in" to your list.

Erik offered traffic secrets by suggesting free keyword search
links and suggested callers "search Google" for niche research.

"There are two kinds of traffic," says The Faster Webmaster,

Session #1.2: Finding Your Niche

Dogs to Daisies, Yoga to Yogurt...

Okay everybody, welcome back to The Faster Webmaster. My name is Erik Stafford and in this Session we are going to be talking about how to choose and research niche markets. So what are niche markets?

Niche markets are specific areas of high interest. Think about it, and see if you can come up with one. Can you think of any one subject that people are super-passionate about?

My good friend Joshua Shafran high-passion markets "oholic" markets: markets where people are so interested in something that they are not rational about it, rather they are "oholic" about it. "Choc-oholics" love chocolate, for example. "Dog-oholics" love dogs. I went to Ohio State, and so of course I love Ohio State Football. I am not rational about it... I am "Buckeye-oholic". As a result, I have Buckeye bumper stickers, shirts, coffee mugs, and so on and so forth.

If you work in that niche, chances are good
that you have some of my money in your wallet right now.

Finding these markets can be a tough chore because many people have unique interests that they are emotionally attached to, and therefore want to base a business on them. While this is admirable, and in theory a good idea, in the competitive online business world it doesn't always work.

You must find a topic that people want to read. Better yet, a topic people must read.

When you are first sitting down trying
to decide what market you are going to work in,
you want to make sure of one thing:

That the market you are interested in has enough of an audience to sustain your efforts in it. For example: you might be super interested in Hissing Cockroaches. Don't laugh: my roomate in college was (shudder). Are there enough people in the world that are interested in that subject? Is it worth it to create products about Hissing Cockroaches?

Only research will tell you the answer to this question.

As you do some research it will become clear that a lot of topics will not be very marketable for many different reasons. For instance, perhaps there isn’t really any interest in it or perhaps there is so much interest that the topic is saturated. Saturated markets are difficult at best to break into and you should ask yourself if it’s worth the frustration when there are so many good niche areas available to you.

So where to begin? How do you find a topic that will sell like hotcakes?

Procrastination Defeated

Ok, last time we spoke of Procrastination and Overwhelm,
essentially Too Much Information! Too Many Projects!

Perhaps you'd like some tips on curing Information Overload
and getting things done.

Let's start with all the things you have to do...

I suggest you make yourself a list, daily. Many find this is best
at night, so that the list is ready for you in the morning.

What happens too often to victims of overload is that they get up
with no plan, go to their email, get lost in their Inbox and aimlessly
wander through the day in their free time. This, too, is a "system"
but it's a bad one, so "having a system" isn't enough, you need a
good system, a productive system. So, let's make that list....

Take a sheet of paper and write down the 10 most important things
you have to do (tomorrow). Look at your list and pick the top 2 most
important/urgent items that must get done above all the rest.

Once you have the 2 priority items, pick the most important of the 2
items....and do that first.

This takes some discipline because we all find that, often, the thing we
really should be doing is also the thing we least want to do.

When you take the top 10 items and reduce that list to a top 2, it is the
80/20 Rule in play! When you choose to complete the #1 item on a daily
basis, you will be amazed at the progress you'll make!

If that #1 thing seems like a big project, that is ok....take that item, as a
"project" and then break that down into smaller "tasks" within the project.
"What do I have to do first, then next, then next...until it is complete.
This will help you overcome Overwhelm and Overload.

And, regarding email, Erik Stafford suggests looking at that Inbox. Do you
get mail from Marketers that you never read but fill up your Inbox?

This can be a major distraction and the simple answer is...take a deep breath,
move your mouse to "Unsubscribe" and click it. Start dumping useless email.
Free your Inbox from clutter so you can begin to concentrate on earning money
and not reading email...

be so busy trying to get ahead you just run in circles.

Confusion, frustration and overwhelm can equal procrastination, as in no
progress. You may lose your way and lose your enthusiasm. You may even
forget why you started in the first place while chasing the next big "thing".

want to use to Market Online. This name will be your URL (uniform resource locators)
which is kind of like your PO Box on the Internet. It is the Title of your Website.

Make a list of ideas that you think would be a good website name that will describe what
you do or who you are. You then go to a site that sells Domain Names, like GoDaddy.com
and enter the name in their Search bar and submit. They will tell you if the name is now
Available, which mean you may register it now, or they will say the name is Unavailable,
which means that someone else has already registered that name...
but they will give you a list of suggestions of available variations of that name to consider.

If you wish to Register a name, you may do that Online or via a Customer Service phone
number, where a representative will help you do the Registration in 1 year increments.

If you are building a business, you will want to consider registering the name for a longer
period of time than one year, 3 to 5 years would be best as this will help give your business
credibility if someone checks your domain registration. Someone who registers their name
for only one year doesn't appear that they plan on being around for very long (or they are
afraid they are going to fail...so perhaps there is some "mindset" benefit to having a longer
registration, as well!).
